My Amby Baby is one of the first things that all our visitors are intrigued to see (after me of course) so I thought that I would create a page about it.
An Amby Baby is a sleeping baby motion hammock and is designed to help me have a good night’s sleep. And I have to say, it works! I have not had a bad night’s sleep in my Amby Baby since I moved into it after coming home from the clinic.
Here’s what my Amby Baby looks like:

I’m sleeping in Mummy and Daddy’s bedroom at the moment and it’s not a large room but you can see that my Amby Baby fits nicely alongside their bed (Mummy’s side naturally).
The Amby Baby is a hammock supported by a very strong spring on a solid but light metal frame. The idea is that the hammock wraps around the contours of my body giving me a secure feeling. As the Amby Baby is supported by a spring there is a gentle rocking movement if I move (or if I’m rocked) that is like being back inside Mummy’s tummy. It really does give me a good night’s rest.

Grandma and Grandad bought my Amby Baby Hammock for me and Mummy chose the natural cotton colour. Mummy had seen the Amby Baby mentioned on one of her message boards and she especially liked Amby Baby’s claim that using the hammock could cut down the risk of SIDS and reduce colic and infant reflux.
Here’s a picture of me sleeping in my Amby Baby:

Thank you Grandma and Grandad for getting my Amby Baby Hammock. I sleep well in it which means that Mummy and Daddy get a good night’s sleep as well. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again; happy parents = a happy baby.

It’s been recalled after infant deaths from suffocation: http://www.pnj.com/article/20091209/BUSINESS/912090321/1003/Hammock-baby-beds-recalled

Thank you Ladybug for pointing this out. Those poor babies.

After having used the Amby Baby for several months, we heard the recall and quickly removed our son from it, and have been terrified to use it again ever since.
That was, until the repair kit arrived.
Once I saw the repair kit, I realized what happened. Some stupid parent had not assembled the hammock correctly and allowed it to shift out of the upper hook and the entire bed tilted in a way that would be normally impossible.
Once we saw the repair kit and looked logically at the problem it was “repairing”, we quickly realized that the device itself is not to blame, but the parents who didn’t take the time to properly set up the AmbyBaby, and who ALSO housed their infant in another room without a baby monitor.
Seriously folks…it is impossible for a baby who cannot roll over to wedge him/herself anywhere.
Our 13 month old son (who is still a lightweight for his age mind you) sleeps like a dream in his, and when he wakes up, quickly goes back to sleep. He is warm, cozy, and cannot roll around his crib either kicking all covers off of himself (catching cold as a result…at least twice), nor can he get tangled up in them (also happened a few times).
For a skeptic of all things when it comes to my son’s safety, I’ll put my name and money on this device. 100% safe when the parents take the time to set it up correctly.
Also, how many babies have died in cribs? Anybody recalling those???
