Bananas!

March 1st, 2007 · 2 Comments

Well! Here’s something to prove that Mummies and Daddies know best.

I haven’t really been taking to the whole weaning thing very well. After my initial enthusiasm for my first carrots I haven’t been all that keen on the whole idea and I really didn’t like chicken. Yuk!

Now, from the very beginning, Mummy and Daddy didn’t like the idea of giving me meat straight away. (Don’t get the wrong idea, they are definitely not vegetarians.) Everything they had read (there go those academics again) said begin with fruits and vegetables. But since the doctor said I needed iron and stressed that chicken was the way to get it, chicken it was.

And then today they both started thinking about the banana that they first wanted to give me. Mummy looked it up and appararently bananas are rich in iron. So this afternoon Mummy made me banana with milk (Mummy milk, not cow’s milk) and I thought it was yummy. In fact I thought it was so yummy that I ate a little too much and burped some of it back out again.

So far so good on the banana front. We’ll see if I like it again tomorrow or if this was just a fluke.

Some babies take to weaning really quickly and others are more fussy. And you must understand that it’s hard when you’ve been on liquids for 6 months and then suddenly you’ve got food that you’ve got to move around inside your mouth and that has a completely different texture and taste.

But I like bananas - today. I make no promises for tomorrow.

Until next time, bye bye

    Hi Matthew
What an awful time you have had visiting all those doctors; glad your ok though.
My mummy feeds me really good food and she uses the Annabel Karmel’s ‘Baby and Toddler meal Planner’.
The recipes are great and it told mummy all about which foods are best for me. I like stewed dried apricots and there full of iron.
Your mummy’s milk must be good if your a big baby.
    Keep eating lots.
    Love Matilda xxxx

    Hello Matilda

Great to hear from you again.

Mummy and Daddy had the awful time; I’ve been feeling fine (except for that horrible chicken taste)!

Mormor and Morfar gave us the Karmel book for Christmas which is where Mummy and Daddy got their weaning ideas from. They really felt that she was telling them the right sort of things - it was just the doctors that were telling them differently. Knowing that bananas are a rich source of iron has made the world of difference; they don’t have to try and get chicken down me when I really don’t like it.

Thanks for the tip about stewed dried apricots. I’ll give it a try one day. (Daddy says “over my dead body.” He says he’s quite happy to clean poo and spit ups but touching apricots is a step too far).

    Hope to see you soon.

    Love Matthew xxxxxxx
