We saw the doctor and everything is OK. It was as Mummy suspected and I have Benign Hydrocephalus and not the more serious Hydrocephalus. The doctor said that by the time I’m 18 months or so my head size will be in proportion to the rest of me if my expected growth rate continues as it is doing. She will naturally keep an eye on everything.
She did say that we could see a specialist if we wanted to. Daddy got a bit cross about this. He said that if everything was OK then why did I need to see a specialist. Either it was OK or it wasn’t. The doctor replied that a few years ago she wouldn’t have mentioned it but these days she does. Mummy and Daddy think that she probably has to cover herself against future problems.
So everything seems to be OK. Thanks to everyone who sent their good wishes and thoughts. It meant a lot to Mummy and Daddy.
We also got the blood test results tonight. Everything seems to be all right although my iron levels are a bit low. Babies are born with all of the iron that they need for the first six months (we can’t get it from Mummy). After that we get our iron from our food. I’m on carrots at the moment and after four days of that (to make sure I don’t get a reaction) I’m going to start on chicken. Sounds good!
Until next time, bye bye.

My child was also born with hydrocephalus. My son is almost 6 yrs now. We celebrated when his head got smaller enough that he was on the chart and in the 99th percentile. We still have PT, OT and Speech Therapy but are doing great! What a blessing they are!

Hi kae
I’m sorry to hear that your son has benign external hydrocephalus. I’m sure that your doctor will be able to explain everything far better than I could.
All I can say is that 18 months later I am fine, my head is in proportion to the rest of me and everything is as it should be. Hearing things like benign external hydrocephalus is very scary but in my case, and hopefully yours, there was nothing to worry about. Although it didn’t feel like it at the time.
I hope everything turns out OK for your son and you.
Matthew
