Blood Test and Brain Scan

February 21st, 2007 · 2 Comments

What a horrible day I’ve just had.
This morning I went for my blood test. I don’t like having injections so I cried for a bit. I also came out in red spots on my arm. The injection lady said that this was quite normal but that Mummy and Daddy should mention it to my doctor. Something else to worry about there then.

This evening I want for my scan. We didn’t know what to expect. Daddy envisaged a CAT scan but it turned out to be a scan of my head using the same equipment that Mummy’s OB-GYN used to see me whan I was in Mummy - ultrasound.

When the technician finished the scan, Mummy asked her what was the result. The reply was a muttered “fluid, normal” or something like that. After a wait we got the results but it was written in Catalan which we can’t read.

Whe we got home Mummy looked at the results again and made out the words “hidrocefália.” A look on the Internet revealed the worst. Hydrocephalus (to use the English name) is not a nice thing to have and Mummy shed a few tears when she read about it (Daddy was out walking the dog). She then noticed the word “benigne” in the results. This made a heck of a difference. Benign Hydrocephalus means that I’ve got a big head for my age and really not much more.

Until we see my doctor on Friday we can’t be certain what the result say but suffice to say Mummy and Daddy are worried although I feel fine.

Until next time, bye bye.

[…] We saw the doctor and everything is OK. It was as Mummy suspected and I have Benign Hydrocephalus and not the more serious Hydrocephalus. The doctor said that by the time I’m 18 months or so my head size will be in proportion to the rest of me if my expected growth rate continues as it is doing. She will naturally keep an eye on everything. […]

Hello my name is Paras. My beautiful 10 month old baby Alex also has external hydrocephalus. He has had a ct scan but will also have an mri scan in afew months. Although they say in most cases having this condition is not dangerous I feel abit anxious for I dont know 100% sure if we are out of the woods yet. After his mri scan I will speak to the neurosurgeon again for I also have so many questions. Would you guys know if there are any complications with this condition, or when does it go away, is it dangerous for these babies/children to get knocked on the head? or is this condition affiliated at all with anurisms? How is your little one doing and how long ago was he diagnosed? Good luck with it all and keep me posted if you like by email. Thank you
