The Life of Matthew

Over the past few days I’ve noticed something new and exciting in my world. I have toys! Small, furry things whose ears crackle when I grab them (Mummy says they’re made this way to help my sensory development but that when I’m a big boy they’ll have soft ears) and a mobile that hangs above my pram. I think it’s been there for a while but I haven’t really noticed it yet. I’ve also got a soft rug that Mummy and Daddy lay me down on to play and if I hit out with my arms it makes music. It’s got something that Mummy says is called a mirror and when I look at it another baby appears. Mummy says its me. Do I really look like that!

My favourite toy so far is a little blue and pink rabbit with long ears. Mummy holds it by the ears in front of me and I hit out at it and grab it. Sometimes I gurgle and then Mummy says I’m talking.

My baby book said that at first I’d be more interested in black and white toys, but Mummy and Daddy said it’s impossible to find black and white baby toys, especially mobiles. Their friends have said the same. But I like the coloured ones now and I know I’ve got more hidden away upstairs. I can’t wait for Mummy and Daddy to get those out.
