I’m Official!

August 28th, 2006 · No Comments

We all went to the local town hall this morning to register my birth here in Spain. The process was really simple and straight forward. Mummy and Daddy had the foresight to take all of their own official documents including their marrage certificate as well as my documents from the hospital.

The only thing that Mummy and Daddy had to check was how my name was actually written down. In Spain the tradition is to give a baby both their Daddy’s AND Mummy’s surname so all Spanish children have, in effect, double-barrelled names. My Mummy and Daddy just wanted to register me under Daddy’s surname (Mummy’s married name) which is the norm in England. They also wanted to give me three names (two middle names) which could have been a problem because the form only had room for two. However, everything was sorted with ease.

Mummy and Daddy are now waiting for papers from England so that I can get my UK passport.
